Kelly Jean Dammeyer is an exceptional, gifted and inspiring woman. She is a dynamic trainer, transformational leader, inspired coach and empowered facilitator. Her skills and enthusiasm as a fitness trainer and cooking instructor are a valuable resource in the San Diego area. Here are her answers to some questions I recently put to her.
How did you get involved in fitness training and nutrition?
As a child and as a young woman I was always a natural athlete, however, I was afflicted with just about every addiction known to mankind which kept me from being able to thrive in life let alone function.
I have 23 years of recovery from alcohol and drug addiction, 16 years recovery from nicotine addiction as well as, 13 years free from obesity. As a result, I am passionate about my health and well being on all fronts.
I began my journey as a health and fitness professional in 1999 when I began my nutritional studies of Macrobiotics and received my first fitness certifications as a Yoga instructor and personal trainer. Since then I have acquired a variety of certifications in many areas of health and fitness that are listed on my website.
Who are your favorite types of clients?
A real specialty of mine is working with men and women in their 40’s and up who want to increase their core strength and flexibility and train their bodies for longevity.
I very much enjoy working in the field of recovery and currently run the fitness program at a local recovery home for young teens and adults with eating disorders.
Do you offer personal training/cooking instruction as well as classes?
From my studio, I offer personal training and three types of group fitness classes: Nia, Indigo Core Fusion and Restorative Yoga. I wanted to provide group fitness classes that cross train the body in the most creative, fun and productive ways.
I also lead a Healthy Cooking Seminar in my home where I focus on a gluten free menu, how to prepare fast and delicious meals and snacks, proper portions, kitchen set up, grocery shopping and healthy restaurant tips.
Where is your studio?
Indigo Energy and Fitness studio is located on the borderline of Oceanside and Carlsbad. 1839 South Coast Highway, Suite 100, Oceanside, Ca. 92054 (just 1 block North of Vista Way on the corner of Kelly St. and Pacific Coast Highway 101)
Do you work with all ages, male and female?
Yes, I enjoy working with both men and women of all ages.
Do you offer gluten free cooking aide?
I certainly do and I have been eating gluten free for about 4 years myself and I do not miss wheat at all. In my Healthy Cooking Seminar, I demonstrate some great alternatives.
How have you seen people's life change with both your fitness and cooking programs?
I am so amazed at the wisdom of our bodies and at how quickly the body transforms when we are willing to give it what it needs in the way of nutrition, exercise, sleep, etc. The first thing that people usually celebrate is their newfound energy, less stress, better sleep and a feeling of joy.
I have miracle stories of people who have suffered for years with a chronic injury and sometimes just after a week of training with me they are out of pain. I have witnessed tremendous amounts of weight loss, as well as bodies becoming more shapely, strong, flexible and agile.
What is the best way for people to contact you?
